Description:
Sheffield 1J Saxony ladies' nurse's watch, ebauche movement model 8800, champagne-toned metal dial with a sunburst brushed finish and raised gold Arabic numbers & markers has a few small spots of discoloration, gold steel wedge style hands an a gold sweep second hand, yellow base metal (YBM) with an aluminum base teardrop-shaped case with a deeply textured top bezel around the slightly raised round dial aperture, smooth polish round back cover, crown at the wide bottom (12 o'clock), a YBM fluted bail that connects the watch to a necklace and a fancy plastic crystal with a cut-glass style edge detail, case is showing normal wear with some spots of discoloration on the edges, a few notable scratches on the back and some light scratches on the crystal, we can replace the crystal with a new plastic one at no charge on request however it will not have the fancy detail, measures approx. 41mm wide x 55mm in length (bail included) x 9mm thick (crystal included).
Watch is paired with a matching 24" YBM aluminum curb-link necklace with engraved links and a small spring ring clasp. While fancier than expected, this does have all the criteria for a nurse's watch with the ability to be pendant worn, a sweep second hand and the desirable trait of a 12 o'clock at the "bottom" of the watch configuration, additionally the aluminum base does make this watch anti-magnetic and will help the movement resist being magnetized if exposed. An interesting and attractive pendant watch from the 1960s in excellent overall condition!
