Citizen 21J quickset automatic (self-winding) with day & date "Mickey Mouse" wrist watch, case #1051262 70-0096, mint white metal dial with yellow & red hour markers and an aperture at 3 o'clock displaying the day & date, both display black Arabic numbers on a silver background, on the left side of the dial is a large representation of Mickey Mouse in yellow, black, red & white, heavy gold steel baton-style hands with luminous inserts and a gold sweep second hand, heavy white base metal (WBM) cushion-shaped water-resistant case with a brushed finish, high flat-top plastic crystal and hidden lugs, case is showing light normal wear overall with a few small scratches on the back, measures approx. 35mm wide x 39mm lug to lug x 11mm thick (crystal included), deeply textured black leather strap band with yellow stitching. At PM Time Service, we refer to a "character watch" as any watch that has a dial, and possible other components, that have a cartoon character, public figure or a fictional character printed on them. There were many companies, such as US Time, Ingersoll and Timex, that were commissioned by the character-owner (such as Disney for example) to produce watches with these images, and in most cases, the characters watches were completed at the factory and not as an after-market addition. While most of the PM Time Service character watches are vintage, this type of watch is still in production today, albeit with updated quartz movements.


Character watches were primarily targeted towards children and as such, a large number of the watches produced were of lower quality or "dollar watches" and were also considered ladies' or mid-sized. While the original focus group for sales may have been targeted at children and young adults, we do see many purchases today by adults for their own use.
