Tobias, London 44mm 13J key wind pocket watch #6038, elegant gilt bar-style movement with a brushed finish, beautiful silver dial with tight concentric circles engraved under the raised silver Roman numerals, outer ball minute markers, a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o'clock and a filigree center ring around a multi-colored scene of a house on the shore of a mountain lake, dial has an even patina across the surface, a few small scratches and a bit of area worn off the top-right of the lake scene, purple steel spade & whip style hands.

Silver hinge back & bezel (HB&B) case with an elaborate floral filigree engraved pattern around the blank monogram shield, offset hinges, a coin edge frame, a short heavy pendant supporting an extra large bow, a base metal anti-magnetic dust cover and a bull's eye glass crystal, case is showing normal even wear with some smoothing to the engraving around the edge of the back cover and some notable spots of discoloration on the dust cover from wear, additionally there is a very thick patina across the surfaces of the outer case, we can clean and polish this to a bright silver finish at no charge on request however many collectors prefer the natural patina; measures approx. 49mm in diameter x 71mm in length x 14mm thick (crystal included).

This watch also comes with an unbranded maroon leatherette display box with nickel hardware, an off-white satin and dark green velvet interior and a formed pocket watch cup, the hinge on the box is a little loose however the latch does still close tight and the box is secure when closed. While this watch was likely considered a Swiss fake at the time of production, and is not connected to the MI Tobias family of watchmakers, it is still an excellent example of early watchmaking that is running exceptionally well for its style and age. A very unique and attractive pocket watch from the mid-to late 1800s in excellent overall condition!
