Description:

Swiss 20S jeweled key wind pocket watch, handsome gilt bar-style key wind and set from the back movement with a cylinder escapement and a brushed finish, there is a ruby cap jewel over the balance staff, however it does appear the other "jewels" are glass, we are presuming this is a 1J movement but there may be additional functional jewels under the decorative glass ones that we are not seeing, single sunk (SS) porcelain enamel dial with large Roman numerals, black minute markers and a black-marked subsidiary seconds register has a black locomotive design on the upper half under the red fancy script "Rail Road Time Keeper", dial has a small repair at 2 o'clock along with a few faint hairlines, fancy gold steel hands, one whip and the other with an arrow & ball design.

Heavy smooth polish silver hunting case (HC) with a large blank round monogram shield on one side, a frame engraved with a textured design, recessed offset hinges, a large heavy bow, glass crystal, a non-magnetic white base metal (WBM) dust cover and an inscription on the dust cover, "Wm. Kerr Born June 30" 1825 Died July 6" 1902", case is hallmarked with an eagle or similar predator bird mark (not the Mexican eagle), we were not able to match it to confirm silver content but the weight, aging and wear are consistent with a coin silver, case is showing normal even wear overall with no notable dents or scratches however there is an uneven patina across the covers, we can clean & polish the case at no charge on request which should even this out, however some customers prefer the look of the aged silver and we have only polished the watch with a cloth prior to taking the photographs, measures approx. 59mm diameter x 84mm in length x 17mm thick.

This was considered a "Swiss Fake" at the time of production, which was likely during the mid-to late 1800s, and is of surprisingly high quality overall and still running very well for this type of movement, an interesting conversation piece in excellent overall condition!
