Gruen 17J Precision grade 330 wrist watch #572847, case #2618105 model 304/330, vintage mechanical manual-wind unusual nickel bridge movement with bold red ruby jewels and curved movement plates to fit properly in the exaggerated curved case back, champagne-toned metal dial with a matte finish, recessed Arabic numbers and markers with a gold finish, a black-marked outer minute marker register, a black-marked subsidiary seconds register and is marked "Gruen Curvex Precision", dial has some light scuffs, scratches and small spots of discoloration, gold steel baton style hands with pointed tips.
Heavy yellow gold filled (YGF) Gruen Lord Rist-Side model curved rectangular case with a deeply curved frame & back that would allow the wearer to position the watch on the side, not flat, of the wrist, allowing for the time to be viewed while driving without removing the hands from the wheel, sloped bezel supporting the slightly domed glass crystal, wide upper & lower frame extends out and down to form the hidden lugs and are engraved with an art-deco style fan & engine turned pattern, case is showing moderate normal wear with some smoothing to the engraving and small spots of brass showing on the lugs and case edges along with heavier spots of brass on the back cover, additionally the back cover does have a slight gap and color difference to the frame, it is possible the back cover is a replacement to this watches' original case back or it could be the original that has had very heavy wear and was gold plated to try and cover some of the heavier brass areas, measures approx. 20mm wide x 32mm lug to lug x 16mm thick (top of the crystal to tip of the lugs), heavily textured padded red-brown leather strap band.
This watch also comes with a Gruen cream & maroon colored Lucite display box with gold markings and a cream satin & maroon velvet interior with a fixed wrist watch display band. An impressive, limited release mechanical movement Gruen from the late 1930s, a great find for the unusual or rare vintage watch collector, in very good overall condition!
