Gruen 17J Precision Veri-Thin grade 460SS automatic (self-winding) wrist watch #IC67965, case #41452D, silver-toned metal dial with a brushed finish, alternating raised silver chevron markers and luminous Arabic numbers with a black outline, outer minute register with 5 minute Arabic markers and luminous ball markers and 1/5 second sub-marks, dial has some light patina across the surface along with some small specks of discoloration, silver steel skeletonized baton style hands with pointed tips and luminous inserts along with a red steel sweep second hand with a triangular tip, none of the luminous elements are retaining or emitting light.
Heavy round white base metal (WBM) & stainless steel (SS) water-resistant case with a smooth polish finish, a stepped bezel supporting a slightly domed plastic crystal and faceted tapered extended lugs, case is showing normal wear with some light scuffing and a few spots of discoloration from wear on the lugs & crown, measures approx. 31mm in diameter x 39mm lug to lug x 11mm thick (crystal included), distinctive SS expansion band with wide segments that have each been inset with a strip of black leather and then closed into the segment with a southwestern-themed upper plate, band is in excellent condition and while showing signs of wear does not have any notable damage. A high grade, nicely finished Gruen from the 1940s in excellent overall condition!
