Hamilton 36S 21J adj. 6p Model 22 wind indicator pocket watch #2F9662, proprietary setting type specific to the Model 22 with a pin-set depress that then allows the crown to be pulled out to the time-set position, impressive nickel bridge movement with distinctive angular plate & bridge layouts and a bar-style damascene pattern is marked "U.S. Navy - BU. Ships - 1942" in addition to the standard Hamilton movement markings, champagne-toned metal dial with a matte finish, large black Arabic-style numbers, a black-printed minute marker register and black-printed power register at 12 o'clock and seconds register at 6 o'clock, dial has a number of small scuffs and scratches across the surface, bold black steel spade & whip style hands.
Heavy white base metal (WBM) gun metal screw back & bezel (SB&B) case with a matte finish, coin edge bezels, a large heavy pendant that recesses the crown, a friction fit dust cover and a slightly domed plastic crystal, marked on the back cover "Bureau of Ships U.S. Navy (N in a circle)2394-1942 Chronometer Watch", case is showing normal wear overall with some discoloration from use on the frame & bezels, some light scuffing and a few notable scratches to the matte finish on the back, measures approx. 71mm diameter x 85mm in length x 21mm thick (crystal included).
This watch also comes with a red mahogany Hamilton box with nickel hinges and latch, a recessed display top affixed with a black plaque with use instructions and a fitted padded green velvet interior, the box is showing normal wear with some small scratches and nicks, additionally the top recessed area looks to be missing the upper piece of trim, the recessed surface is snug to the watch when closed but is a bit loose in the box when it is open. An impressive, high quality marine chronometer, contracted by the US Navy from Hamilton for the WWII war effort in the 1940s, running strong and in excellent overall condition!
